West Chicago defeats East Aurora

West Chicago edged East Aurora East on Friday night for their first win of the season in West Chicago.

The game was a competitive seesaw battle from begin to end with the Wildcats winning 20-19.

Both teams utilized the running game for most of the evening with West Chicago's Zachary Stefan getting a good chunk of the carries. Stephan said his team had to give everything it had adding that the competition was up to the test.

The Wildcats scored first when Tray Lally recorded a 2-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

"We finally put together a good first half and second half, and that was the difference," West Chicago coach Ted Monken said. "When we do things correctly, we can be successful."

A key moment of the game came in the fourth quarter when the Tomcats were marching down the field and on a fourth-down play, the Wildcats defense made a defensive stand.

"Our players are great, they were tired, we have a lot of players playing both ways and on special teams, I knew they were exhausted," Monken said.

Tomcats coach Kurt Becker said after his team could not stop the Wildcats on the ground.

"You got to take a look at the film, you try to make adjustments but tonight we'll go back look at the film and see what we can do," Becker said.

Running back Nasir Phillips had a big game for the Tomcats with 3 rushing touchdowns.
