Lafayette man gets 55 years for 2 murders during robbery

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - A Lafayette man has been sentenced to 55 years in prison in connection with the slayings of two men.

WLFI-TV reports (http://bit.ly/2dgaF5A ) 34-year-old Matthew Oertel was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty to two counts of murder.

Thirty-six-year-old Aaron Hunter Jr. and 46-year-old Terry Smith Jr., both of Lafayette, were fatally shot during an August 2015 robbery at the Lafayette home they shared.

Co-defendant Jacob Guffey of Delphi pleaded guilty June 28 to two counts of felony murder and one count of auto theft. He faces a possible sentence of 55-67 years in prison when he's sentenced Oct. 6.
