R2-D2? WALL-E? No, it's NCH's robotic surgery team!

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (September 22, 2016) - Are you considering surgery and wondering if the rapidly developing field of robotic surgery is the right choice?

Northwest Community Healthcare (NCH) is hosting a free educational event about robotic surgery, where the surgeon at a console manipulates instruments on the long ends of robotic arms, which allows for smaller incisions and quicker recovery times.

A team of NCH doctors will discuss how robotic technology assists with surgical procedures to speed healing and reduce scarring for several health conditions, including lung cancer, prostate disease, gastrointestinal disorders and gynecological procedures.

The robotic education event is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, September 29, in the hospital auditorium, 800 W. Central Road, Arlington Heights. The night kicks off with a meet-and-greet session with doctors, followed by individual presentations starting at 6 p.m.

Chief Medical Officer Alan Loren, M.D., will kick off the program, followed by:

• Michelle M. Luthringshausen, M.D., who will introduce the robotics program and talk about fibroids and endometriosis resection.

• Gary Chmielewski, M.D., will discuss robotic lung cancer treatment and resections.

• Scott Pinchot, M.D., will talk about abdominal wall hernias and colon resection.

• Thomas Pae, M.D., will present on cholecystectomies.

• Rebecca Brooks, M.D., will discuss endometrial, cervical and ovarian cancer.

• Humberto Martinez-Suarez, M.D., will talk about the benefits of robotic surgery for treating prostate and kidney cancer.

A question-and-answer session and hands-on robotic simulations will follow the presentation. Register online or call 847-618-4968.
