Boys soccer: Hersey edges Conant, stays unbeaten

In a matchup of two of the Mid-Suburban League's boys soccer top teams, host Hersey had the edge.

Barely.

The Huskies extended the unbeaten start to their season by gaining a 4-3 victory over Conant on Thursday.

Hersey (10-0-1) got goals from Dan Gritt, Guiseppe Scaletta, Jack Rasmussen and Matt Dickey, while Saul Casillas, Christian Castro and Thomas Skiba provided assists.

Adam Szymaszek (0.63 goal-against average) manned the goal for Hersey.

Wheeling 4, Rolling Meadows 0: Jose Mariscal scored twice and assisted on another goal as the host Wildcats maintained their chase of Hersey with an MSL East victory.

Vicente Castro also scored twice and Dennis Gavrila had an assist as Juan Castillo earned the shutout in goal for Wheeling.

Hoffman Estates 2, Buffalo Grove 1: The host Hawks overcame a first-half deficit, scoring twice in the second half to claim and MSL triumph.

Ted Penez scored with an assist from Gil Perez, and Sebastian Cajial had the game-winning goal on a penalty kick.
