Fire prompts partial evacuation at Vegas' Golden Nugget

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Hotel guests on three floors of a downtown Las Vegas high-rise casino were evacuated in the middle of the night after a fire that authorities have linked to smoking.

Las Vegas firefighters say they were called to the Golden Nugget hotel a little before 1 a.m. Thursday. They found that a fire in a room on the ninth floor was under control thanks to an automatic fire sprinkler.

Three of the hotel's 18 floors were evacuated.

The guest who was in the room had been sleeping but was able to escape the fire without injury. No injuries were reported.

Damage is estimated at $10,000 and includes the bed and minor smoke issues throughout the room.
