Judge to rehear motion to dismiss some Gliniewicz charges

WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) - A Lake County judge has decided to rehear a defense motion to dismiss some charges filed against the widow of suburban Chicago police officer who tried to make his suicide appear as if he was gunned down in the line of duty.

Judge James Booras on Wednesday vacated a ruling by a previous judge denying a defense motion to dismiss misuse of charitable funds charges against 51-year-old Melodie Gliniewicz. Victoria Rossetti recused herself from the case to avoid a potential conflict of interest. She did not state the conflict.

Defense attorney Donald Morrison said his new motion to dismiss some charges would be "substantially" changed from the one Rossetti denied.

Melodie Gliniewicz was indicted months after Fox Lake Police Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz's death last September on charges the two siphoned money from a youth program. She's pleaded not guilty.
