Girls golf: Prospect edges New Trier

In a battle between Illinois girls' golf powers over the last decade, Prospect's Knights earned a 1-stroke triumph (163-164) over New Trier at the Mount Prospect Golf Club on Tuesday.

Senior Mary Schafer turned in Prospect's top score with a 40 while four girls (senior Sabrina Accardi, freshman Kelly Kavanagh, sophomore Emily Fleming and senior Kate Ponzi) all produced 41s on the par 35 layout.

"Our depth helped us," said Prospect coach Jim Hamann. "I'm very proud of the girls' efforts. We will continue to improve the next few weeks."

Barrington d Fremd: Barrington remained perfect in the Mid-Suburban League with a 151-190 win over Fremd at the Makray Memorial Golf Course.

Caroline Smith (37), Nicole Ciskowski (38), Maggie Hoffman (38) and Renee Sulkar (38) led the Fillies while Grace Lee led Fremd with a 43.

Schaumburg d Hoffman: Jennifer Cappello (40), Trinity Corwin (41) and Cheyenne Harris (440 led Schaumburg to a 187-252 win over Hoffman Estates at the Highland Woods Golf Course.

Buffalo Grove d. Wheeling: Haeri Lee (38), Jasmine Yi (41), Grace Gran (49) and Katie Fontanetta (49) led BG to a 177-196 win over Wheeling at the Chevy Chase Golf Course. Adrienne Rohwedder (40) and Symantha Rohwedder (43) led Wheeling.

Hersey d. Conant: Megan Kopeny (37), Abby Brush (42), Sophia Cacioppo (44)and Maggie Anderson (47) were top scorers for Hersey in a 170-175 victory.

The Cougars were led by Nimra Syed (43), Alyssa Brand (44) Michelle Zhang (44) and Tida Bowers (44).
