Ascena Retail Group Inc., down $2.43 to $5.69
The parent of Ann Taylor reported weak quarterly results and gave a forecast that didn't live up to investor expectations.
Tobira Therapeutics Inc., up $34.17 to $38.91
Allergan agreed to buy the liver disease drug developer in a deal they valued at up to $1.7 billion.
Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., up $2.93 to $68.41
The cruise line operator raised its quarterly dividend to 48 cents from 37.5 cents.
Lennar Corp., down $1.59 to $43.50
Despite strong earnings from Lennar, homebuilders fell after the Commerce Department said the pace of home construction slowed in August.
Pier 1 Imports Inc., up 2 cents to $4.12
Alden Global Capital disclosed a 9.5 percent stake in the home decor retailer and said it wants to have talks with its board of directors.
General Electric Co., up 24 cents to $29.67
Industrial companies made some of the largest gains Tuesday.
Marriott International Inc., up $1.60 to $69.94
The hotel chain said regulators in China approved its $14.41 billion purchase of competitor Starwood, and it expects to complete the deal Friday.
SeaWorld Entertainment Inc., down 57 cents to $12.12
The water park operator said it will stop paying dividends.
