Local Student Veterans chapter to host town hall forum Oct. 4

The McHenry County College Student Veterans of America chapter invites veterans and their family members from the Chicago area to a Veterans Administration Town Hall forum on Tuesday, Oct. 4, beginning with a 5 p.m. reception, followed by a forum from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Luecht Conference Center, 8900 Route 14 in Crystal Lake.

Guest speakers are Stephen R. Holt, MD MPH MSNRS, director of Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center, and Sandra Davis, VietNow National Agent Orange Chair.

Dr. Holt will address public concerns and answer questions from veterans and the general public regarding disability claims, health care, legal and housing issues. The Veterans Benefits Administration Chicago Regional Office will also be represented. The event is sponsored by the MCC Student Veterans of America, in partnership with the Veterans Assistance Commission of McHenry County.

"These town halls provide an opportunity for patients, their families and the community to directly engage with (us) on questions important to them," said Dr. Holt. "We look forward to this great opportunity to hear directly from patients about their care."

The Lovell Federal Health Care Center is the only fully integrated healthcare center partnership between the Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Students and community veterans are encouraged to send their questions in advance to veterans@co.mchenry.il.us.

In addition, accredited Veterans Service Officers will be available to address many other concerns.

For information, call the Veterans Administration Commission at (815) 334-4229.
