Football: Daniels put his foot down with Stampeders

Playing his first year in the Canadian Football League, it hasn't taken Vernon Hills High School graduate DaVaris Daniels long to start earning attention.

The rookie receiver for Calgary Stampeders was honored as one of the CFL's three players of the week due to his performance in a 34-28 overtime victory over the Edmonton Eskimos.

Daniels, who also played for Notre Dame, had 6 receptions for 113 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the win over the Eskimos.

He made a 2-point conversion catch in overtime that allowed the Stamps to tie the game on the first overtime possession. They won on the second possession.

He now has two 100-yard performances in four games since making his CFL debut on Aug. 19 against the BC Lions.

Daniels has 19 receptions for 344 yards and three touchdowns in those four games.

Daniels' father, Phillip, was a defensive lineman for 15 seasons in the NFL and is currently a member of the Philadelphia Eagles coaching staff.
