Ambulance trip is really double-billing

Do you pay property taxes? Included in your tax bill are your taxes for fire protection and E.M.S. services; also including paying for fire pensions, equipment, fire stations training, personnel and other fire related services.

As a resident and taxpayer in the Village of Algonquin. my wife had to call 911 for medical assistance and she was transported to the nearest hospital emergncy room by the Algonquin Fire Department Paramedics. Imagine our surprise when a month later we received a bill for $900 by the Algonquin Fire Department for transportation to the nearest hospital emergency room. There was also an additional mileage fee.

I think we have one of the finest fire departments in the area and I will continue my support of them. But, I don't think that tax-paying residents should be subject to what amounts to double billing myself or the insurance companies.

What's next, having a house fire and them billing you for putting out the fire and then charging you for the amount of gallons of water used also?
