Fuddruckers in Algonquin Commons closes for good

With all of the construction happening at Algonquin Commons this summer, you might not have noticed the departure of one of the mall's restaurants.

Fuddruckers, known for its self-styled burgers, closed Aug. 2, said Kim Gilmore of Gilmore Marketing Concepts, which handles marketing for the mall along the Randall Road corridor.

The restaurant building, which is on the south side of the mall, is right in the middle of the current construction area, leaving many customers to wonder whether it closed temporarily due to construction, or closed permanently.

However, the main marquee signs at Fuddruckers are down, and signs announcing its permanent closing are up on the entrance doors.

The entrance signs apologize to patrons for the closing, and advise them they can get lunch across the parking lot at the Thirsty Whale, which now serves lunch in addition to dinner.

Gilmore, as well as representatives at the mall's leasing office and the village of Algonquin, said they did not know the reason for the closure. Representatives from Fuddruckers did not return calls or emails for comment.

However, former guests have reported less than crowded dining areas at all hours of the day at Fuddruckers over the past couple of months.

Gilmore added that she does not know what, if anything, will be moving into the space at 1608 S. Randall Road.

The building previously was home to Cheeseburger in Paradise, which closed in October 2013 without much notice. Fuddruckers opened shortly after in the same spot.

Both restaurants are owned by the same parent company, Luby's.

A sign on the Fuddruckers door directs fans of the restaurant - which allows patrons to create their own burgers and chicken sandwiches - to other Fuddruckers locations in Schaumburg, Downers Grove and Northbrook.

Pajama party:

The Barnes and Noble store along the Randall Road corridor in Geneva is throwing a pajama party this weekend.

However, this is not just any pajama party. While footie pajamas and nightgowns are welcome, organizers are expecting a little more "fancy" attire from guests.

The store inside of the Geneva Commons mall, 102 Commons Drive, is hosting the Fancy Nancy and Posh Pajama Party at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23.

The party will help celebrate all things Fancy Nancy, from the children's "Fancy Nancy" books.

Guests are asked to wear their fanciest, poshest pajamas. And of course, they will need to accessorize too.

Barnes and Noble says top hats, bow ties, boas, jewels, faux furs and anything else fancy is welcomed at the party.

You will want to dress up, because there will be a fanciest outfit contest at the posh pajama party.

There also will be a story time, treats and a chance to decorate things.

Space is limited for the event.

If you would like to sign up, call the Barnes and Noble in Geneva at (630) 262-8568.
