Barrington Fillies swim to victory vs. St. Charles North

The fifth-ranked St. Charles North-North Stars traveled to Barrington to meet the 15th-ranked Barrington Fillies on Saturday afternoon. The Fillies emerged victorious 117-69 behind a total team effort. Barrington won 8 of 12 events en route to the win.

The meet opened up with the 200-mete medley relay of Maggie Emary, Catherine Kitzman, Emma Graves and Ally Penrod grabbing the top spot. The St. Charles quartet of Megan Armstrong, Rachel Ponte, Mallory Jump and Kayleigh Lewis touched a close second.

The 200-meter free saw junior and 2015 All-Stater Audrey Guyett swim to a first place in a time of 1:53.36 with Barrington's Becca Galovich and Gracie Roper touching second and third.

The 200-meter IM was a very close race start to finish with the top three spots separated by only .28 seconds.

Junior All Stater Maggie Emary charging home on the freestyle leg touched first in 2:08.36. Barrington sophomore Ally Penrod also had a great final leg to finish second with a 2:08.56. Mallory Jump turned in a fine third place showing for the visitors in 2:08.64

The 50-meter free sophomore Bridget O'Leary exploded into the finish for a winning time of 24.93. St. Charles' Rachel Ponte raced to second with a 25.19 and teammate Kayleigh Lewis rounded out the top three with a 25.40.

Diving saw Barrington continue to extend their lead with a 1-2 finish between Anna King and Nicole Barcoft 164.45 and 161.20, respectively. The North Stars' Maddie Shutz captured third place points with a score of 149.45.

Mallory Jump swam a strong second 50 to touch just ahead of Barington Junior Emma Graves 59.06 and 58.87 respectively. The Fillies' Catherine Kitzman touched in 1:01.16 for 3rd place points.

The 500-meter free featured a showdown of All-State swimmers, we will almost certainly see in November, with Audrey Guyett swimming a classic back half swim in 4:57.39 with Maggie Emary touching second in a season best 5:00.62. Freshman Becca Galovich swam to 3rd place in the event with a 5:15.42.

The North Stars' relay of Rachel Ponte, Katie Cantrell, Emily Matthews and Audrey Guyett swam to victory with a 1:39.34. The Barrington quartet of Julie Vega, Tea Ragnini, Lupita Vega and Bridget O'Leary swam to 2nd place with teammates Nicole Runtz, Gracie Roper, Emma Graves, and Becca Galovich swimming to 3rd.

The 100-meter back saw Fillies junior Mia Chen swim a season best 1:01.04, with teammate Maddie McFarland coming in second with a 1:02.07. St Charles' Julianna Engesser rounded out the top 3 with a 1:02.12

In the penultimate event, the 100-meter breaststroke Barrington sophomore Ally Penrod touched the wall in a fine time of 1:05.38, fellow sophomore Catherine Kitzman swam to second place and St. Charles swimmer Rachel Ponte swam to 3rd.

The 400-meter free relay saw Barrington finish with a season best 3:35.29 with Becca Galovich, Maggie Emary, Bridget O'Leary, and Ally Penrod. The St. Charles team of Megan Armstrong, Mallory Jump, Sydney Maxwell and Audrey Guyett swam to second with a 3:38.64. The Fillies relay of Tea Ragnini, Mia Chen, Gracie Roper, and Maddie McFarland finished third.

At the junior varsity level, Barrington outpaced the St. Charles North 137-43.
