Stewart-Haas hires Cole Custer to drive Xfinity Series car

JOLIET, Ill. (AP) - Stewart-Haas Racing has hired 18-year-old Cole Custer to drive its new NASCAR Xfinity Series car next season.

The team announced Friday that Custer will drive the No. 00 full-time next season with Haas Automation as the primary sponsor.

Custer has been running full-time in the NASCAR Truck Series, where he has two wins and four poles in 34 starts. His 2014 New Hampshire victory at age 16 made him the youngest winner on the circuit.

The Ladera Ranch, California, native has made three Xfinity starts this season, including a fourth-place finis at Charlotte.

Custer will turn 19 before the start of the 2017 season.
