Miller, Lawson help LZ roll past Zion-Benton

Two Lake Zurich players combined for 4 key catches on Friday night, as the visiting Bears won 42-24 Friday against Zion-Benton in North Suburban Conference action.

That was 2 touchdown grabs from senior Alex Miller and 2 interceptions from senior defensive back Mat Lawson.

"We are on the rise," Miller said after the visiting Bears improved to 3-1 and 2-0 in the NSC. "We have good relationships with our teammates."

Lake Zurich struck first, when junior quarterback Evan Lewandowski hit Miller on a 20-yard TD pass. Lawson's pick killed a Zion-Benton drive, and the Bears were up 7-0 after one quarter.

By halftime, the Bears were in control. Joey Stutzman (19 carries, 90 yards) scored on a short run, as the Bears opened a 22-0 lead.

Just before halftime, Lewandowski hit Miller on a 67-yard bomb to make it 29-8.

"Our offense played very well," Lake Zurich coach David Proffitt said. "We struggled on defense at times."

The second half was highlighted by Lewandowski's 58-yard TD run. He finished the drive on a 2-yard gallop.
