Volunteer on National Public Lands Day Sept. 24

Be part of the nation's largest single-day, volunteer event for public lands.

Join staff and volunteers from the Forest Preserve District of Kane County to help plant oak trees, clear nonnative brush, collect seed, and create and disperse a seed ball for National Public Lands Day.

Join the fun anytime between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Burnidge Forest Preserve in Elgin.

There will be plenty of activities to last throughout the event.

Enjoy live music and stop by exhibitor booths to learn more about conservation efforts in the area.

This is a great event for families, Scouts, groups or individuals.

Groups of less than 10 do not need to register in advance. Groups of 10 or more can contact the volunteer coordinator at (630) 762-2741 or email volunteer@kaneforest.com to RSVP.

Burnidge Forest Preserve is at 14N035 Coombs Road, Elgin. Note: Coombs Road, north of Highland, is closed. Follow the posted detour to get to the forest preserve.
