Thomas Macheras scored the equalizer in the second half, as Warren's boys soccer team avoided an upset and earned a 1-1 tie against host Lake Zurich in North Suburban Conference action Thursday night.

Lake Zurich (2-7-1, 1-1-1) led 1-0 at halftime on a goal by Joe Heffernan assisted by Zane Chung-Mehdi in the 35th minute.

"I thought we played real well and I was happy with our possession," Lake Zurich coach Mike Schmitz said. "I thought we generated a ton of chances, but we couldn't put one in the back of the net (in the second half)."

Warren (10-1-2, 0-1-1) netted the tying goal in the 59th minute, when Macheras connected on a kick from 35 yards out.

"I thought this very much was a first- or second-round game in the playoffs," Warren coach Jason Ahonen said.

It was a total team effort as every player got significant playing-time. Our boys have played very well this week and deserved this result. We are still working on areas to improve and hope in the next few weeks we will continue to grow as a unit."
