ACLU to hand out 1,000 pocket Constitutions at voter drive
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana plans to give away 1,000 pocket-sized U.S. Constitutions during a voter registration drive in Indianapolis.
Members of the ACLU will help hand out the booklets on downtown Indianapolis' Monument Circle during the lunch hour on Friday, which is Constitution Day.
ACLU of Indiana Executive Director Jane Henegar says that "in a country filled with differences, the U.S. Constitution brings us together and makes us all Americans." She says the pocket Constitutions will give recipients "ready access to your rights and to our shared values as a people."
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has repeatedly called for a moratorium on accepting Syrian refugees as part of a broader stance on immigration that has included a complete ban on Muslim immigrants entering the nation.
