Schaumburg Parent University to kick off 2016-17 season with free session on Internet safety September 20

District 54's Schaumburg Parent University will kick off the 2016-17 season with a free session on Internet safety from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, at the D54 Professional Learning Center, 522 E. Schaumburg Road. The presentation will be divided into two rooms - one for parents and guardians, and one for third through eighth grade students.

Speakers will include Detective Matt Christensen, Detective Art Kwiatkowski, Officer Paula Casey and Officer Eric Wang from the Schaumburg Police Department; and Kathleen McGowan from the Cook County Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

The presentation will be offered in English only. Free childcare is available for older or younger children. Schaumburg Parent University classes are open to all interested community members. Schaumburg Parent University is designed to involve more parents/guardians in their schools, to strengthen family relationships, and to improve parenting skills that will ultimately result in improved student success academically, socially and emotionally. Two types of classes are offered: Practical Parenting for adults only and Time Together, where families learn and play together. Most classes are free and childcare is provided.
