Gail Borden's book sale to feature art fair Sept. 15-18

Gail Borden Public Library Foundation will host the fifth annual Book Sale & Art Fair on Sept. 15-18.

The preview sale, with a $10 admission, will be 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, at the library, 270 N. Grove Ave. in Elgin.

The sale will continue during library hours, with free admission, on Friday, Sept. 16, to Sunday, Sept. 18.

Thousands of books and media for adults, teens, and children will be for sale at the main library including coffee table books, gardening, cookbooks, military history, new fiction, CDs, DVDs and more. This year's special will be DVDs.

Proceeds help fund exciting and other events for the library community.

This year, a new element will be local artists joining the event. Below are a sampling of the quality artists who will be there:

• Barb Broeske has lived and explored the central heart of this old city since arriving in 1974. Her art involves "Elgin Soul Stories" to sensitize people to discover new meaning/value/function for the treasures of our local heritage.

• Marcia Gutiérrez loves how one can create so many different moods from one photo. Each time she works on a new piece there is an intimate relationship that develops between the photographer and the subject. There is more to discover than what was initially seen by reinventing the image either digitally or using different art medias; sometimes both. I can spend days working on a piece, sometimes longer - looking at it, studying it as it forms its own story.

• Freelance artist and IT consultant Bob Hickey lives in Hanover Park. His style is heavily influenced by Japanese Manga/anime.

• Geannina Gutierrez is a freelance artist who works with watercolors and other medias such as digital and pen. She has studded at the Florence Academy of Art in Italy for a year and is currently still a student at the American Academy of Art in Chicago as a fine art watercolor major.

Library hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday- Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
