How Illinois safe haven law works

Parents in crisis can legally relinquish their baby, up to 30 days old, at a safe haven.

Unharmed babies can be handed to staff members at any of the following locations statewide:

• Fire station.

• Police station.

• Hospital.

• Emergency services facility.

• College or university police station.

No questions will be asked. You do not need to provide your name or contact information. No one will try to stop you and no one will follow you.
