Boys golf: Carmel's Anderson in rare company with 69 at Ivanhoe Classic

Barrington coach Mike Kallenbach said that "there's only been a handful of scores in the 60s" over the years in the Ivanhoe Classic.

Add one more to the list.

Carmel's Tyler Anderson fired a 69 Monday, including a scorching 4-under 32 on the back 9, to earn medalist honors at the Ivanhoe Club in Mundelein in tough, windy conditions.

"At the break I basically knew that I had to make a move if I wanted to win," said Anderson.

Anderson did just that, starting the final 9 holes with an eagle, one of two eagles he made on the back 9.

"I just told myself I had to focus up," said Anderson, "and play well."

Mundelein took home the team trophy by carding 318 as the Mustangs were led by a 74 from Ryan Magee, good for a tie for second place individually.

Fremd junior Pierce Allard fired a consistent 39-39-78 to take the ninth-place medal.

"Beautiful," was the way Allard described the Ivanhoe course as he competed in the tourney for the first time. "I thought I played pretty good overall although I missed some easy putts. I'm happy with my round."

Host Barrington, led by Tim Lim (74, tied for 2nd), and Tom Calbi (75), finished in second place.

Matt Weltzien had the best score for Palatine with an 85, and DJ Godlewski carded 86 for Wheeling.

Brett Parola finished at 76 for Mundelein, good for 5th, while Mark Noonan (78) and James Dvorak (78) both medaled for Stevenson.

Dvorak had a 1-under 35 score on the Marsh course as the golfers played the Marsh and the Prairie.

Nick Tudor excelled for Schaumburg by taking home the sixth-place medal with a 42-35-77.

"I was hitting all wedges into the greens today," said Tudor. "My drives were long and straight. Every single wedge I hit was less than 100 yards away."
