Lincolnshire police use Taser during chase through football crowd

Lincolnshire Police pursued a man considered possibly dangerous through the crowd in the stands at the Stevenson High School football game Friday night, using a Taser to take the man into custody as he headed toward the football field, according to a news release issued early Saturday morning.

A knife was found at the scene, police said.

Police gave this account:

About 8 p.m., Lincolnshire Police units assisted Vernon Hills Police with a report of a possible domestic battery involving a possibly suicidal subject armed with a knife who may have sustained cuts. By the time police arrived, the man had left in the direction of Stevenson High School.

About 8:35 p.m., a person matching the description was spotted by Stevenson High School personnel near the entrance to the football stadium and asked to remain outside; however, the man entered the stadium.

Lincolnshire Police officers assigned to the game arrived and ordered the man to stop. He instead ran toward the bleachers.

Police pursued the man through the crowd-filled bleachers to an area near the track, continually ordering the man to stop. As he attempted to exit the bleachers toward the football field, police used a Taser and took him into custody.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
