Defendant found not guilty of Palatine double murders

Jurors yesterday found Marco Lopez not guilty in the 2014 shooting deaths of a Palatine father and son. The verdict followed arguments from Lopez's attorney, Cook County Assistant Public Defender Caroline Glennon, that pointed out the state had no physical evidence to support prosecutors' theory that the 19-year-old gang member gunned down Segundo Reynoso, 36, and his 15-year-old son, Luis, on March 19, 2014. Beach Park man, girlfriend charged after SUV crashes into home

A Beach Park man and his girlfriend face multiple charges after he fled from a Lake County sheriff's deputy and drove an SUV into a Waukegan home, authorities said. The sheriff's deputy attempted to stop a 2004 Lincoln SUV driven by Lee Hernandez, 31, at 3:12 p.m. Wednesday. Full story.

Aurora man convicted of gun crimes

An Aurora street gang member who fled from police with a gun last September has been convicted of unlawfully possessing a loaded handgun, Kane County officials said. London Gray, 30, was convicted Wednesday for unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, unlawful possession of a firearm by a street gang member and unlawful possession of a defaced firearm. Judge increases bail in Elgin kidnapping, cigarette torture case

Citing another felony arrest and a lack of supervision, a judge yesterday increased bail to $300,000 for an 18-year-old who authorities say masterminded a scheme to kidnap, beat and torture a teen in Elgin earlier this year. Luis M. Palomar of Lake in the Hills is one of four people charged with felony home invasion, kidnapping and battery stemming from a Feb. 27 attack on Palomar's ex-girlfriend. Full story.

Naperville could clear downtown Walgreens to sell alcohol

Drinking-related crime concerns that drove Naperville to prohibit its downtown Walgreens from selling alcohol have subsided enough for the rule to be reconsidered. Liquor commission members voted 4-2 yesterday to recommend the city council rescind a 2014 regulation that forbids the downtown pharmacy from selling packaged liquor. Full story.
