Defenders to host screening of 'The Burden' Sept. 21

On Wednesday, Sept. 21, the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County and Citizens Climate Lobby will present a free screening of the 2015 documentary "The Burden," which focuses on the challenges of climate change as it relates to our military and national security.

It also looks at what the military is doing to become more energy efficient.

Retired Navy Commander Cliff Lee will address the audience after the screening and will take questions.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., with the program at 7 p.m. This is a free event, open to the public, but donations to help defray costs are gratefully accepted.

Roger Sorkin is the producer, director and writer. A graduate of Stanford University's Documentary Film and Video Program, he is an award-winning filmmaker and a fellow with the T1ruman National Security Project. Since 2002, his production company, Sorkin Productions LLC, has created films and political advertising campaigns for nonprofit organizations, academic institutions, government and corporate clients including the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition, the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Army, Center for U.S. Global Engagement, and International Foundation for Electoral Systems among others.

Founded in 1970, the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County is a citizen organization dedicated to the preservation and improvement of the environment. The group provides community residents with educational programs and volunteer action on pollution prevention, sustainable land use and energy and natural resource conservation.
