Beach Park man, girlfriend charged after SUV crashes into home

A Beach Park man and his girlfriend face multiple charges after he fled from a Lake County sheriff's deputy and drove an SUV into a Waukegan home, authorities said.

The sheriff's deputy attempted to stop a 2004 Lincoln SUV driven by Lee Hernandez, 31, at 3:12 p.m. Wednesday. Hernandez was going north McAree Road at Grand Avenue, and police were aware that Hernandez had revoked driving privileges and an active arrest warrant, the sheriff's office said in a news release.

Hernandez initially slowed as if to pull over but then sped away, turning east on Glen Flora Avenue, authorities said.

Police found the SUV crashed into a house on the 1900 block of Glen Flora Avenue but no sign of Hernandez or his passenger.

Nobody inside the home was injured.

Police later found Hernandez and his girlfriend, Aliyah J. Massari, 21, of Kenosha, walking in the area.

Both were taken to Vista East Hospital, where they were treated and released into police custody.

Hernandez was charged with four counts of aggravated fleeing and eluding, leaving the scene of a traffic crash, failure to give information after a crash, attempted possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and numerous traffic violations.

Massari was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, two counts of identity theft, two felony counts of forgery and three felony counts of unlawful possession of another person's credit cards.

Each is being held on $100,000 bail.

Hernandez will appear in court again at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 26. Massari's next court appearance is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Sept. 29.
