Girl Scout Troop accepts award from state Rep. Steve Andersson

Girl Scout Troop 830 consists of 20 girls who demonstrate the positive values, confidence, and problem-solving skills that makes Girl Scouts proud. These girls decided to use troop funds, earned by participating in the Girl Scout Cookie Program, to purchase two Buddy Benches for their school playground. The school was so impressed with their selfless gesture that they purchased the benches and asked the girls to design and decorate them.

Troop 830's good deed did not go unnoticed! On Wednesday, Aug. 30, the girls were recognized with a special award presented by state Rep. Steve Andersson. Each girl was presented with a certificate acknowledging her part in bringing friendship and student awareness to Davis Richmond School in St. Charles.

The ceremony was attended by school principal Denise Liechty, Troop Leaders Katherine Wood-Robles, Dawn Santucci, and Jodi Melcher, as well as the girls' families. Each upcoming second-grade troop will maintain the benches for years to come.

"Buddy Benches" provide an opportunity for kids to connect on the playground. When a child sits on the buddy bench, it is a sign to other students that they are looking for someone to play with. The benches support inclusion and friendship by allowing kids to connect with other kids for companionship and play.
