Serve City Athletics opens new club volleyball location in Medinah

Serve City Athletics, a youth sports organization headquartered in Carol Stream, is excited to announce the opening of its latest club volleyball location in the western suburbs.

Serve City's newest practice facility is located at Medinah Baptist Church in Medinah. The church's gymnasium will host Serve City girls volleyball club practices from November 6 to April 7 for Serve City's 13-and-under, 14-and-under and 16-and-under Medinah teams.

Serve City's first official event at its new location is a tryout for its 2016-2017 girls club teams. The tryout takes place on Monday, Oct. 3 for girls ages 11 to 16. If your daughter is interested in trying out, register online at www.servecityvolleyball.org/tryouts. The price to try out is only $5, one of the lowest tryout costs of any area club. Makeup dates are also available.

Medinah's grand opening gives Serve City seven club volleyball locations across the Chicago area. Serve City also operates club teams in Wheaton, Downers Grove, West Chicago, Ravenswood (Chicago), Elgin and Sycamore. Serve City has built a reputation for operating family-friendly club teams that are among the most affordable clubs in Chicagoland while keeping travel and Sunday tournaments to a minimum to respect families' time and budgets. Medinah's teams will only play local tournaments on Saturdays during the 2016-17 season.

"We are thrilled to be offering a new practice facility in Medinah," said Tim Maruyama, Serve City executive director and founder. "The facility is in a very accessible location for families in several nearby communities, including Wood Dale, Roselle, Itasca, Bloomingdale, Elk Grove Village, Schaumburg and Bensenville.

"Our belief is that girls will find Serve City to be a program where they will be trained to reach their highest potential both on and off the court. Our mission is to use volleyball as a platform to help athletes grow both in their volleyball skills and understanding of the game but also in their character, values and leadership skills. We achieve this through an organization-wide commitment to three principles: love, relationships and excellence."

Serve City was founded in 2013 in Chicago to provide children and youth with excellent training from coaches and instructors who care about them as athletes and as individuals. The organization offers three types of athletic programming: recreation, club sports and ministry initiatives. Recreationally, Serve City partners with more than a dozen park districts across the Chicago suburbs, including Downers Grove, Glen Ellyn, Addison, St. Charles, Hoffman Estates, Geneva, Deerfield, Hinsdale, Burr Ridge and Park Ridge, running classes, clinics, camps and leagues in team sports like basketball, volleyball and soccer and non-traditional offerings such as lacrosse, pickleball, ultimate frisbee, disc golf, badminton and spikeball.
