Foreclosure suit filed against former AT&T campus in Hoffman Estates

U.S. Bank has filed a foreclosure lawsuit against the property owner of AT&T's former corporate campus in Hoffman Estates.

AT&T announced in 2013 that it would vacate the campus and move its 3,000 workers to other properties in the Chicago area.

Despite its migration, AT&T had been continuing to pay rent on the property to owner Highlands REIT through the expiration of its lease last month.

With the end of that lease, the property no longer generated revenue for Highlands, according to the company's filing in May with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

The filing of the foreclosure suit does not change the village of Hoffman Estates' role on the property, according to Village Manager Jim Norris.

The village is responsible for ensuring that the property and buildings continue to be maintained and a recent inspection tour showed everything to be in good shape, Norris added Wednesday.

The lawsuit's filing provides no indication of what the next use of the property might be, Norris said.
