Former Students to Visit College of DuPage at Free Writers Read Event Oct. 13

In celebration of College of DuPage's 50 year anniversary, former COD students Eboo Patel and Leigh Stein will read and discuss their work from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday,

Oct. 13, in the Student Resource Center, Room 2000, on the College's Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.

This program is part of the College's free "Writers Read" series, which brings area authors to COD's campus for readings and discussions.

Leigh Stein is the award-winning author of "The Fallback Plan," "Dispatch from the Future" and her most recent release, "Land of Enchantment," a memoir about love, obsession, abuse and loss. She has written for Allure, BuzzFeed, the New York Times, Salon, Slate and the Washington Post, Allure, and is the executive director of Out of the Binders, a 501 c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the careers of women and gender non-conforming writers. For her advocacy work, Leigh has been called a "leading feminist" by the Washington Post, and she was also named a "woman of influence" by the New York Business Journal.

Eboo Patel is the author of "Acts of Faith," "Sacred Ground" and his recent release "Interfaith Leadership." He is a Rhodes Scholar and the founder and president of Interfaith Youth Core (IFYC), an organization dedicated to making interfaith cooperation a social norm. His work regularly appears in the Washington Post, Huffington Post and on CNN. For more than 15 years, Eboo has worked with governments, social organizations and colleges across the U.S. to help realize a future where religion is a bridge of cooperation rather than a barrier of division.

For 17 years, the Writers Read series has brought dozens of nationally acclaimed writers to College of DuPage, including Stuart Dybek, Luis Urrea, Scott Russell Sanders and Joy Harjo. This event is sponsored by COD's Creative Writing and Religious Studies programs, as well as the Liberal Arts Division.
