Upgrades worth the wait for St. Theresa students in Palatine

Students at St. Theresa School in Palatine had their first day of classes Tuesday, nearly three weeks later than their peers in the village's public schools.

It was worth the wait.

Students returned to a host of updates and renovations completed over the summer, part of a project that includes the addition of a new school hall, science and computer labs, a music room and kindergarten classrooms.

The school also added new lighting and flooring to the gymnasium over the summer, as well as other upgrades to parish facilities.

St. Theresa Parish is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. The original school building was completed in 1954. Last November, the school earned the U.S. Department of Education's National Blue Ribbon Schools Award of Excellence.
