Suburban Chicago police officer fatally shoots man in fight

ROUND LAKE, Ill. (AP) - A suburban Chicago police officer has fatally shot a man in a struggle after he allegedly tried to break into a residence.

Lake County Major Crime Task Force spokesman Christopher Covelli says a Round Lake officer arrived at the scene late Friday and was confronted by a man armed with a piece of glass. Witnesses reported the man was banging on doors and had attempted to break into a home.

During a struggle, the officer fired and hit the man.

Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead by the Lake County coroner's office. WMAQ-TV in Chicago reports the man was identified as 22-year-old Michael Robert Musson of Grayslake.

The officer is a 12-year department veteran and has been placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation.
