GAM shows off its high-tech manufacturing operation in Mount Prospect

GAM, a Mount Prospect manufacturer at 901 E. Business Center Drive in the Kensington Business Center, recently completed an expansion that it showed off in a meeting with local officials, including Mayor Arlene Juracek and U.S. Rep. Robert Dold.

GAM specializes in producing gearboxes and couplings used in automation technology. Over the past 15 years, GAM has seen average growth of 15 percent per year. In the last two years, GAM's workforce has grown from 18 to 28 people, many of whom are highly skilled and highly educated.

"GAM is an example of success that can be achieved when the entrepreneurial spirit takes advantage of today's high-tech world," Juracek said in a news release.

GAM CEO Gary Michalek said he chose Mount Prospect for its accessibility and location.

"We develop a customized product in small quantities at an affordable price," Michalek said. "We sell on our engineering expertise to develop a customized product."

The facility is not a traditional factory, but one where a variety of roles can be performed simultaneously by the skilled workforce on cutting-edge machines. GAM products are used in high-speed packaging machines, automotive assembly lines and the International Space Station.
