Explore 'The James Bond Phenomenon' with author Raymond Benson Sept. 28

"Bond, James Bond." For more than a half-century, the exploits of 007 have mesmerized the world on the big screen and, before that, in the pages of Ian Fleming's novels. Today, James Bond - most recently portrayed by Daniel Craig - remains as relevant as ever, continuing to captivate audiences of all ages with his suave demeanor, high tech gadgets, luxury cars, beautiful women, and a license to kill.

On Wednesday, Sept. 28, the Geneva Library Foundation hosts one of the individuals responsible for keeping the legend alive - Raymond Benson. Through "The James Bond Phenomenon," audience members will take a tour through the history of the world's most famous secret agent, learning of his creator, Ian Fleming; the novels; and the films. Finally, guests will hear firsthand from Benson about his experience with James Bond. Benson will have books available to purchase at the event. Ten percent of the proceeds will benefit the Geneva Library Foundation. The program will begin at 7 p.m. at the Geneva Public Library, 127 James St.

Benson is the author of more than 35 published titles, but he is most well-known as the third - and first American - continuation author of the official James Bond novels. From 1996 through 2002, Benson published six Bond novels and three short stories. He also novelized many of the Bond films starring Pierce Brosnan. Benson's love of Bond is long-lasting. Before become the official Bond novelist, he wrote "The James Bond Bedside Companion." More recently, he is the author of the acclaimed New York Times five-part serial best seller, "The Black Stiletto." Benson is also a working musician and film history instructor at College of DuPage.
