Workshop to teach centering prayer

Contemplative Outreach Chicago is offering its fifth annual one-day introductory workshop on Centering Prayer from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at Benedictine University, 5700 College Road, Lisle.

Contemplative Outreach Chicago is a volunteer organization that serves people throughout the greater Chicago region who are interested in centering prayer, a method of meditation and silent prayer that is grounded in ancient Christian tradition.

According to Alan Krema, who leads the Chicago chapter, "Many people are finding that a regular Centering Prayer practice helps them move toward a closer and more meaningful relationship with God. Of course, silent contemplation and meditation have been an important part of Christianity from the beginning. Centering Prayer presents the teachings of earlier times in an updated form."

This year's workshop will offer in-depth introductory sessions on Centering Prayer, along with a range of other topics. The agenda includes sessions on the Wisdom Way of Knowing based on the work of Cynthia Bourgeault, the Power of Formative Thought, the Transformative Power of Dreams, and Integral Insights based on the work of Ken Wilber.

The cost to attend the workshop is $55 until Monday, Oct. 10, and $60 after. For more information, contact centeringprayerchicago.org/events, or Alan Krema at alkrema@gmail.com or (630) 369-6624.
