Aguero charged with violent conduct by English FA

LONDON (AP) - Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero could miss the derby match against Manchester United in the Premier League on Sept. 10 after being charged with violent conduct on Tuesday for elbowing an opponent during a game.

The English Football Association said match officials did not see the incident, in which Aguero appeared to swing his left elbow toward the face of West Ham defender Winston Reid in the 76th minute of City's 3-1 league win on Sunday. It was caught on video, however.

If he is found guilty by a three-person panel of former officials, Aguero could receive a three-match ban. City's next game is against United at Old Trafford, possibly the most eagerly anticipated match of the season.

Both teams have won their opening three games of the campaign.

Aguero has until Wednesday to respond to the charge. Each member of the panel will review the footage and determine if they consider it a sending-off offense. The decision of the panel must be unanimous for retrospective action to be taken.

The Argentina striker is one of City's most important players. He has scored six goals in five games this season.
