Lombard apartment fire causes $75,000 damage

An apartment fire caused $75,000 damage and the temporary closure of Westmore-Meyers Road in Lombard, authorities said Tuesday.

Firefighters responded to the report of fire inside the 6-unit apartment building on the 400 block of South Westmore Avenue around 4:45 p.m. Monday.

Upon arrival, they saw heavy fire and smoke coming from a garden apartment window, Battalion Chief Brian Stuart said. The fire, which began in one of the unit's bedrooms, was extinguished within 12 minutes.

Stuart said the fire did not extend to any other apartments within the building. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters said the cause of the blaze was electrical and an electrician was working in the building when the fire broke out.
