Man testifies against brother in 2014 Aurora drug murder trial

Jaquan Green-Hosey and his brother Dimitri purchased marijuana in $5 and $10 increments before. On Jan. 13, 2014, the Joliet men found a hookup for an ounce of high-quality cannabis from their Aurora connection.

Instead of forking over $300 for the drugs, their plan was to steal it; Jaquan would grab the pot from Arin Williams after they met at an Aurora restaurant, and Dimitri would block Williams from chasing them.

Jaquan Green-Hosey testified in Kane County court Tuesday he grabbed the drugs and started to run out of the now defunct La Torta restaurant, when he heard a pop.

“I heard a shot,” Jaquan testified, saying he turned around and saw “my brother with a gun and Arin was shot.”

Dimitri Green-Hosey, 21, and Jaquan, 22, were charged with first-degree murder; prosecutors argue Dimitri shot and killed Williams, 20, once in the back of the head in a robbery gone wrong.

Jaquan agreed earlier this year to testify against Dimitri for a reduced sentence.

“(Dimitri) shot him one time in the back of the head,” Kane County Assistant State's Attorney Mark Stajdohar told jurors. “The defendant executed Arin Williams over one ounce of cannabis.”

Stajdohar also said authorities matched the bullet from Williams' head to the gun Dimitri Green-Hosey threw into a lake but police later recovered. Stajdohar said the two brothers ran across Route 31 (Lake Street) to an apartment complex where they changed clothes, showered and Dimitri used a razor and scissors to cut his hair.

The two drove to Joliet and later stayed at a hotel in Cicero before authorities arrested them at a train station the next day. Stajdohar said Dimitri Green-Hosey destroyed the phone he used to call Williams to set up the drug deal and Jaquan was yelling at his brother afterward, saying, “Why did you shoot him? That wasn't the plan” as they ran from the crime scene.

Defense attorney Robert Lewin argued Jaquan Green-Hosey cut a deal with prosecutors only to save himself. Lewin said the brothers had enough money and intended to pay for the marijuana but instead Jaquan grabbed some of it and ran off.

Williams then scuffled with Dimitri Green-Hosey and Dimitri, who was 18 at the time, grabbed Williams' gun and shot him in self-defense, Lewin said.

“We have a different story of what happened that day,” Lewin said. “The evidence will show that Jaquan did not see Dimitri bring a gun to this meeting with Arin Williams.”

The trial is expected to conclude Wednesday.

Dimitri Green-Hosey faces a prison term ranging from 45 years to 85 years if convicted and prosecutors prove he fired the fatal shot.

Jaquan Green-Hosey pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and armed robbery earlier this year. He is expected to receive a 25-year term for his testimony.
