West Chicago taking Brilliance in Businesss nominations

West Chicago is accepting nominations through Monday, Oct. 17, for its annual Brilliance in Business Awards.

Implemented in 2009, the awards program identifies and celebrates West Chicago businesses considered shining examples of industry best practices, creativity and sustainability. It is the highest honor given by the city of West Chicago in recognition of exemplary and innovative business practices.

This year the Brilliance in Business Awards program has been refreshed, with a new method for selecting winning businesses. The program will bring together previous Brilliance in Business recipients, regional business leaders, and city officials as part of the judging panel. The addition of peer-judging is intended to elevate the level of significance winning such an award represents to the business.

"The validation of achievement by a fellow business member who understands the rigors of staying competitive in today's global economy makes the award even more meaningful," said Luis Martinez, West Chicago's business development and special event coordinator.

In addition, Mayor Ruben Pineda will visit businesses to congratulate them on their wins. The business also receives media exposure, an invitation to a breakfast with the mayor, and a formal recognition ceremony at city hall later in the week.

Residents, businesses, nonprofit organizations, or members of economic development organizations are encouraged to nominate a business for one or more award. Businesses may nominate themselves.

"Whether you are a worker, staff member, manager, entrepreneur, CEO or resident, we want to hear how your business or the business you admire continues to make strides to be successful in West Chicago," Martinez said.

Nominations may be submitted online or by mail. Program guidelines and nomination forms are available at westchicago.org under Business, or by calling Luis Martinez at (630) 293-2200, ext. 157.
