Bears' Trevathan ready to bounce back from rough preseason

The Bears' 0-3 preseason start doesn't concern inside linebacker Danny Trevathan nearly as much as how the team responds.

"I'm more concerned about how we're adjusting and how we're going to bounce back from that," he said. "It's preseason, and I know all that, but collectively I want to see us play a little better and put together a great start and a great finish at the same time."

The Bears have one more Halas Hall practice before Thursday night's preseason finale and then a full week to get ready for their regular-season opener against the Texans in Houston.

"That's what we're here for is to get better on this practice field, and we've got to attack it every day," Trevathan said after Monday's workout. "This week is going to be vital for us to have a great season. Just the first group getting together and getting on (the same) page and just flying around to have fun.

"You've got to make them count. Great defenses, great teams, make them count."

Team effort:

Inexperienced center Cornelius Edison's first NFL start in the Bears' nightmarish preseason loss to the Kansas City Chiefs Saturday wasn't bad, especially compared to the rest of the team.

"I thought he played pretty decent," coach John Fox said. "I don't think we played as a group very well. I don't think we executed very well. I thought that was evident; very disappointing. Especially that first half, that was probably as rough of a first half as I've watched."

The Bears were outgained 239-18 in the first two quarters and trailed 13-0 at halftime.

To each his own:

Bears players didn't have much public reaction to San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick's decision to remain seated during the national anthem last week.

"He did what he felt he had to do," inside linebacker Danny Trevathan said. "He has the right to do that. But right now I'm focusing on winning games. that's my one goal is to help this team win."

Outside linebacker Willie Young professed not to know much about the situation.

"I've got too much going on right here at Halas Hall to worry about what he's got going on," Young said.

Injury update:

As if the offensive line doesn't have enough problems with guard Kyle Long (shoulder) still out and center Hroniss Grasu's season-ending knee injury, interior lineman Ted Larsen did not practice Monday.

But it was just a minor illness that sidelined Larsen, who initially was plugged in at center to take over for Grasu but then shifted to right guard when Long was hurt. The seventh-year veteran is expected to start the season at center, assuming Long is back in action.

Tight end Ben Braunecker (ankle), defensive end Cornelius Washington (knee, ankle), rookie linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski (hamstring) were limited, and linebacker Roy Robertson-Harris (illness) was unable to finish.

Defensive lineman Akiem Hicks was not at practice but "in the building, dealing with a personal matter," according to coach John Fox.

Cornerbacks Tracy Porter (concussion), Kyle Fuller (knee) and Bryce Callahan (hamstring) did not practice, along with wide receiver Deonte Thompson (knee), safety Deon Bush (concussion) and linebacker Lamin Barrow (foot).
