New U of Illinois chancellor will start work a little early
URBANA, Ill. (AP) - The new man in charge of the University of Illinois' Urbana-Champaign campus plans to start work a week early.
Campus spokeswoman Robin Kaler said incoming Chancellor Robert Jones plans to start Sept. 26. She told The News-Gazette (http://bit.ly/2brMtLW ) that Jones had been expected to start on Oct. 3 after finishing up his work as president of the State University of New York at Albany.
But Kaler said Jones set that date to make sure he had plenty of time to finish his work. Now the SUNY campus plans to have an interim president in place by Sept. 23.
Jones was named chancellor in July to take over for interim Chancellor Barbara Wilson. She had been on the job since the 2015 resignation of Phyllis Wise.
