Kaka double gives Orlando 2-1 win, costs NYC top East spot

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Kaka scored both goals as Orlando City beat New York City 2-1 on Sunday, preventing the Big Apple team from going top of Major League Soccer's Eastern Conference.

NYC stayed two points behind East leader Toronto and is now only a point ahead of local rival New York after the Red Bulls defeated New England.

Kaka opened the scoring in the 32nd minute but Steven Mendoza equalized for the visitors in the 55th minute when he knocked in a rebound from a saved shot.

Kaka drew a penalty in the 63rd minute and the former Brazil star converted it himself to secure a win that moved Orlando within a point of the last playoff-yielding spot in the East.

The Red Bulls moved onto NYC's tail by beating New England 1-0.

The winner came in the 55th minute when Revolution goalkeeper parried a shot back into play and Bradley Wright-Phillips half-volleyed the rebound into the net for his 166th goal of the season. Wright-Phillips has 61 goals in 100 career MLS games.

New York is undefeated in nine games while the Revolution has gone six games without a win.

Portland beat regional rival Seattle 4-2, with all the Timbers goals coming in the first half. Portland now has sole possession of sixth place - the last playoff berth - in the West, four points ahead of the Sounders.
