Tickets on sale for Waukegan orchestra, concert chorus seasons

Tickets are on sale for the upcoming seasons of the Waukegan Symphony Orchestra and Waukegan Concert Chorus Symphony.

Symphony concerts will be Saturdays at 7 p.m. at Waukegan High School's Trapp Auditorium of the Brookside Campus, 2325 Brookside Ave., and the chorus will hold its concerts at 4 p.m. Sundays at the First Presbyterian Church of Waukegan, 122 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave.

The Waukegan Concert Chorus opens its 41st season with American A cappella on Nov. 6. Music will include Thompson's Peaceable Kingdom and Dailey's In Remembrance.

The Waukegan Symphony Orchestra's first concert of the 43rd season is in celebration of Shakespeare's 400th. Shakespeare400 is a worldwide commemoration of the English language's most revered playwright and in honor of the 400th anniversary of his death. This concert will be held Nov. 12.

Other concerts that will round out the WSOCC season include the 9th Annual Joseph A. Favero Memorial "Do It Yourself" Messiah and Carol Sing Along" at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17 at the First United Methodist Church of Waukegan, 128 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., Waukegan. Tickets are $15 per seat and those who are under 19 are free.

The Young People's Concert is held each February at the Trapp Auditorium. This year's event will take place at the high school auditorium Saturday, Feb. 25 at 11 a.m. Adult tickets are $5 each and students under 19 are free. Besides the concert, children will be invited to the stage by the members of the orchestra to discuss with their youthful audience and their parents about their instruments and about the magic of music.

The remainder of the season will include the Waukegan Concert Chorus's spring concert titled, Six Evening Hymns. All music will follow the theme of evening. The chorus will also provide five arrangements of Abide By Me. This concert will take place at the First Presbyterian Church on Sunday, March 12 at 4 p.m.

To close out the season, symphony orchestra will feature Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 5, at the Trapp Auditorium. The concert will be held on Saturday, May 20 at 7 p.m. The program will include music celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Reformation and will include works by J.S. Bach and Martin Luther.

Season tickets cost $65 per adult, $50 for senior citizens who are 62 years or older and military, and $36 for college students. Students who are under 19 years of age are free with ID. Staff asks that students 12 years and under be accompanied by an adult. Season tickets may be purchased on-line by going to Brown Paper Tickets http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2579606. You may also call (800) 838-3006 to order tickets where all major credit cards are accepted by Brown Paper Tickets. Tickets purchased through Brown Paper Tickets do have a service fee. You may also purchase tickets in person at the Jack Benny Center for the Arts, 39 Jack Benny Drive, Waukegan.
