Malaga fights back to 2-2 at Espanyol in Spanish league

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) - Malaga scored in the 90th minute to complete its comeback from two goals down and draw 2-2 at Espanyol in the Spanish league on Friday.

Gerard Moreno put Espanyol in control of the match with goals in the 27th and 61st minutes.

But Diego Llorente pulled one back for Malaga in the 67th after goalkeeper Roberto Jimenez blocked a free kick that ricocheted off Llorente's head and into the net.

Substitute striker Charles ran onto a header from Ignacio Camacho off a long free kick before poking the ball past Jimenez to split the points.

"It looked like the game was out of reach, but we were able to push them into their area and we got the draw," Charles said. "We took a point away from home and against a good team."

Both teams remained winless in two rounds.

The draw was especially disappointing for Espanyol, seeking to rebound from a 6-4 loss against Sevilla in its season-opener.

"We had a good advantage that we didn't know how to protect," Moreno said. "There were errors that we can't commit again, above all at home. We are playing well in attack, but we need to improve in defense, and that goes for us forwards also."

Espanyol made its eighth summer signing to bring back former midfield standout David Lopez from Napoli earlier Friday, as new owner Chen Yansheng overhauls a squad under manager Quique Sanchez Flores.

It was a second straight draw for Malaga in as many matches under Juande Ramos.

Also Friday, Real Betis was held to a 0-0 draw at home by Deportivo La Coruna.

On Saturday, Real Madrid hosts Celta Vigo, while Atletico Madrid seeks its first win at Leganes.

Barcelona faces a tough trip to Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.
