The National Weather Service has added two more tornadoes to the total that hit Indiana during Wednesday's outbreak.

The agency said Friday survey teams had confirmed weak EF0 tornadoes that caused little damage near the cities of Peru and Kokomo.

That increases to 10 the number of tornadoes for the state. The strongest was an EF3 tornado with winds estimated as high as 152 mph that damaged at least 1,000 homes and businesses in Kokomo.

Other tornadoes were confirmed in central Indiana's Carroll, Howard, Marion and Montgomery counties, along with Allen, Adams and Wells counties in northeastern Indiana.

Kokomo High School's football players are passing up a game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis to help clean up tornado damage in their hometown.

Kokomo was set to play Hamilton Heights Friday night on the home field of the Indianapolis Colts. But players and coaches from both teams will volunteer for cleanup duties.

Kokomo coach Brett Colby says Hamilton Heights will be providing dinner for the two teams. He calls the rival teams' volunteer effort an "outstanding gesture."

Colby tells the Kokomo Tribune about a dozen team members had their homes or those of relatives damaged in Wednesday's storm.

Officials say about 1,000 homes were damaged around the city.

City officials in Indianapolis say emergency crews helped more than 15 people from vehicles stuck in high water from a strong storm.

The storm swept across Indianapolis Friday morning, knocking down numerous trees onto homes and across streets. Much of the damage and street flooding was on the city's north side.

Firefighters responded to some house fires caused by downed power lines or lightning, but no injuries were immediately reported.

Indianapolis Power & Light Co. says about 22,000 homes and businesses lost electricity, with the vast majority on the city's north and northeast sides.

Authorities say at least 80 homes were destroyed in a tornado-producing storm that hit the central Indiana city of Kokomo.

State police said Friday that about 1,000 total homes were damaged in Wednesday's storm, with about 170 of those sustaining major damage.

Some 140 people remained at a Red Cross shelter in Kokomo as cleanup work continued around the city and utility crews tried to restore power.

Duke Energy reported fewer than 4,000 outages remained and estimated all would be restored by Saturday night. About 25,000 homes and businesses were without power after the storm hit.

Local officials say the Park Place Apartments has been ordered vacated after most of the 16-building complex was damaged or destroyed.

The National Weather Service has now confirmed that at least eight tornadoes hit Indiana during Wednesday's outbreak.

Survey teams confirmed five tornadoes swept central Indiana's Carroll, Howard, Marion and Montgomery counties on Wednesday, including an EF3 tornado with winds of up to 152 mph that damaged homes and businesses in Kokomo.

Another three tornadoes have been confirmed in northeastern Indiana's Allen, Adams and Wells counties.

Dan McCarthy, the meteorologist in charge of the weather service's Indianapolis office, says no additional evidence of tornadoes is expected to be found in central Indiana.

But meteorologist Amos Dodson in the agency's North Webster, Indiana, office says crews are still surveying damage near Peru to determine if it was caused by a tornado. The Allen County tornado's storm damage is also still being surveyed.
