School taxes will force seniors out of Palatine

First, we get District 15 teachers a new 10-year contract shoved down our throats by Mr. Scott Thompson. Now he is seeking to approve borrowing $130 million for construction of two new schools.

He states, "If voters approve the proposed bond issue in November, the owner of a $227,500 residence would pay an extra $122 in property taxes each year for a 20-year repayment."

He states, "That amounts to $2,440 over 20 years." Really? How does he know?

That's a drop in the bucket for us senior citizens who are on Social Security and the hardworking homeowners of Palatine. If I owned a $325,000 home, I'd have to pay $175 per year or $3,500 over 20 years.

To all voters: Do the math. Include these new property tax costs with the new 10-year teacher contracts and each year, we will be forced to pay more taxes than we could ever imagine.

Most seniors will not be able to afford these additional taxes, Mr. Thompson. How about picking up these taxes we can't afford? You may have to because a lot of us will be leaving Palatine and moving to places we can afford!
