Woman charged with falsely reporting assault in Schaumburg

Authorities say a Pennsylvania woman filed false reports of battery and criminal sexual assault Tuesday against a Rolling Meadows man in Schaumburg.

Lauren Ryan, 20, of York, Pennsylvania, faces charges of disorderly conduct and false report of offense — the latter a Class 4 felony — stemming from the allegations.

According to Schaumburg police, officers were called to the 1300 block of East Algonquin Road at 4:39 p.m. Tuesday, in response to a call about an assault. Officers met with Ryan, who told them she'd been the victim of a battery and sexual assault on Creek Bend Road by a man she identified as 33-year-old Lashuan Cooper of Rolling Meadows, police said.

Officers found Cooper in a nearby restaurant on Algonquin Road, but he ran away when they began speaking with him, police said.

A perimeter was set up for a search involving several other law enforcement agencies, including Palatine, Rolling Meadows, Illinois State and Cook County Forest Preserve police, and even a Cook County Sheriff's helicopter.

Police located Cooper at about 7:30 p.m. near a pond with tall grass south of Algonquin Road between Roselle Road and Palmer Drive.

Schaumburg police Sgt. Christy Lindhurst said it was later determined that Ryan's original report of battery and criminal sexual assault was false. Ryan and Cooper indicated they'd known each other a month, police said.

Cooper received a municipal citation for trespassing on property on the 2500 block of Brush Road and was released.

Ryan appeared in bond court Thursday and was released on a $10,000 recognizance bond. She is scheduled to appear in court again on Sept. 15.
