Barrington Lions to host free Diabetic Retinopathy Screening

Have you ever experienced blurred vision? Is your vision ever distorted, darkened, or reduced? These could be signs of Diabetic Retinopathy, which could have devastating consequences, including blindness.

Research has shown that early detection can greatly enhance the visual prognosis and treatment outcomes for Diabetic Retinopathy patients.

The Barrington Lions Club, in conjunction with the Lions of Illinois Foundation, will host a free Diabetic Retinopathy Eye Screening from noon until 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, at the Barrington Public Safety Building on Northwest Highway.

The event is open to all members of the Barrington area community and will provide the necessary feedback to individuals who attend the screening.

A special camera takes a photograph of the back of a person's eye. These photographs are then forwarded to Illinois Retina Associates for review by a trained retinal specialist. These specialists have advanced training in the diagnosis and treatment of Diabetic Retinopathy. Results of the screening will be sent to individuals by mail.

This is a free screening for all participants. It is funded primarily from contributions obtained on Lions Candy Day, which is held the second Friday and Saturday of October. This year Lions Candy Days are Friday, Oct. 14, and Saturday, Oct. 15.
