Schaumburg Youth Choir to Hold Auditions

The Schaumburg Youth Choir is holding auditions on Sunday, August 28 beginning at 5pm. Other dates area also available by appointment. Auditions will be held at the Prairie Center for the Arts 201 Schaumburg Ct., Schaumburg. The Schaumburg Youth Choir is open to high school and college students, ages 15 - 22 (high school students must be enrolled in school choir program).

Individuals auditioning are asked to prepare a solo of their choosing (aria or art song, no pop or Broadway). If you are unable to prepare a solo piece, you will be asked to sing an a cappella folk song, e.g. "My Country Tis of Thee."

The audition will include vocal range assessment and sight reading, and each audition slot will last approximately 8 minutes. An accompanist will be provided.

The participation fee for the choir for the 2016-17 season is $175 plus a $25 family membership fee for the Prairie Center Arts Foundation. Installment payment plans are available.

About the Schaumburg Youth Choir:

The Schaumburg Youth Choir is a program of the Village of Schaumburg, and was formed in January, 2014. Members of the SYC receive top-notch training in sight-reading, diction, vocal production, and musicianship. The SYC is directed by Michael Van Camp, who studied at Carnegie Mellon University, earning both a Master's degree and Advanced Music Studies certificate in conducting.

For its 2016-17 season, the choir, featuring talented high school and college students from the area, will present a variety of concerts, including:

Presto! Holiday Concert, Saturday, December 17, 3:30 pm & 7:30 pm

Spring Recital, Sunday, April 30, 7:00 pm
