Aurora U. series continues with 'Talking Politics in the Workplace' Sept. 1

"Talking Politics in the Workplace" will be discussed in a forum at 8 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, at Aurora University's Orchard Center campus, 2245 Sequoia Drive in Aurora. The public is invited. Admission is free. Registration and refreshments are at 7:30 a.m.

The sponsor is the university's Human Resources Institute, a bi-monthly educational program series.

The moderator will be John Jorgensen, an HR consultant and instructor at Northern Illinois University. He said forum topics will include workplace political discussions, campaign materials, a culture of civility, protecting free speech and disciplinary actions. At NIU Jorgensen teaches the Society of Human Resource Professionals Learning System to HR practitioners preparing to take the SHRM certification exam. He previously taught at DePaul University and University of Illinois-Springfield.

In addition to teaching, Jorgensen has over 25 years of experience in human resources positions at small and medium-sized manufacturing firms. As a consultant, he helps companies and HR practitioners refine their HR practices on both strategic and tactical levels. Jorgensen is a SHRM volunteer leader at local, state and national levels. He also serves the ILSHRM board as a strategic advisor. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees in industrial relations/human resources from the University of Iowa.
